David Amerson (Free Agent)

This move would be a cost-effective way to add some beef to their secondary. David Amerson was a second-round draft pick out of NC State in 2013. He spent two full seasons with the Washington Redskins and was a starting corner in 2014. In his lone season as Washington’s starter, he was a valuable component to the defense and a solid tackler.

After being cut by Washington, he ended up in Oakland two games into the 2015 season. He took on the starting role for the Raiders and had the best season of his career. He continued that success into 2016, but a foot injury ended his 2017 season early and he never won back the love of the Raiders and Gruden cut him to save cap space.

After a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs ended in his release, Amerson sits as the best available option in the secondary in free agency. As with most of the other players mentioned in this piece, he can tackle and showed promise as a pass defender in that 2015 season in Oakland.

It’s certainly worth a shot. Given he has no offers on the table, he should be a reasonably priced pickup for the Birds that has a much more intriguing skill set to offer that the recently acquired McDougle.
