5. Carolina Panthers

One can only imagine what the frustration would have been like on Ron Rivera’s end if the Carolina Panthers ended up losing Sunday’s game to the New York Giants since they were in control for just about the entire game. But when taking into consideration this win came down to a game-winning field goal by Graham Gano from 63 yards out, the Panthers should consider themselves lucky for this one.

Lucky or not, the important factor for Carolina is they were able to escape with the win to improve their record to 3-1 on the year to remain in great shape when it comes to the race in the NFC South. When looking at how great the New Orleans Saints are looking at the moment, these are the kind of games the Panthers can’t afford to lose since every win is going to be extremely important.

Carolina’s defense didn’t have their best performance against New York when looking at how the team overall allowed them to score 31 points, but maybe this had something to do with being a little rusty following the bye week. Either way, at least the Panthers won the game before next week’s showdown with the Washington Redskins.
