With Carson Wentz set to return as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, let’s take some time to thank Nick Foles for his contributions.

On Monday, barring another injury to Carson Wentz, the second Nick Foles-era came to an end. As Philadelphia Eagles‘ head coach Doug Pederson announced that Wentz has been cleared for contact and will start at quarterback for the Eagles this Sunday.

With Wentz now back at the helm, Foles will return to his back up role, a position he held until Week 14 of last season when Wentz tore his ACL. From that point on, Foles did more than anyone could have ever expected from him, as he led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl championship.

There are most certainly a lot of opinions on how Foles has played in the first two weeks; but, regardless of that, the entire city of Philadelphia owes a large debt of gratitude to the quarterback out of Arizona.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

So let us take this opportunity to reflect and thank Foles for everything he has done, and most of all, for making all of our dreams come true last February.

When Chip Kelly traded you to the Rams for Sam Bradford in 2015, many fans were bummed, largely because we wondered what could have been. You were 14-4 in your two years under Kelly and led the Eagles to an NFC East title in 2013. All you did here was win.

We saw you hit the lowest of lows in 2015 and 2016, to the point where you even considered retirement. Thank you for showing not just Eagles fans, but everyone what it means to never give up. Your story is one that has inspired so many.

When you came back here in 2017 to back up Wentz, we knew this was no longer your team, but we couldn’t have been happier to have you back. We felt like we had the best back up quarterback in the league, something that would be proved later on in the season.

Then came December 10th, 2018, a day that will always be remembered in the city of Philadelphia. A day where all hope seemed lost when Wentz tore his ACL. But then you came in, won that game, and we embarked on a journey that will never be forgotten.

A journey that did not come without some doubts, there was the clunker of Christmas night and then the poor quarter against Dallas, a pair of games that had many casting doubt on the Eagles’ playoff chances. But they seemed to forget, all you have ever done here is win.

All of those doubts on you and the whole team led to the Eagles embracing the underdog mentality. A mentality that has defined this team, but especially you. After all of the doubt you have faced, and all of the uncertainty, you finally had the chance to avenge all of those demons.

On January 13th, 2018, we began a four-week journey that will forever go down as one of the greatest runs in the history of this city. You helped grind the Eagles to a 15-10 victory over Atlanta for your first career playoff win, avenging the loss from the last time you were in the playoffs.

Then came the next two games, the two greatest games arguably of your career. You dismantled the best defense in the NFL, then went toe to toe with the greatest quarterback in NFL history, and when it was all set and done, you dethroned a dynasty and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

If there was somebody besides Wentz that the fans would have wanted to bring home their first Super Bowl, it would have been you. This city has loved you since your record-setting season in 2013 and we are so glad you got to finish what was taken away from you when you broke your collarbone in 2014.

Amidst all of the highs that came with winning the Super Bowl, you have been the ultimate pro and the ultimate teammate. You understood that this is Carson’s team, and never did anything to stir up any controversy. You had every right to ask to be placed in a situation where you were the guy, but you elected to stay here and hold it down until Wentz came back. For that, we thank you endlessly.

Now that Wentz is back, we know you will continue to be the ultimate pro, and we also know that if your number is called again this season, you will be up for the challenge. And hopefully, one day down the road, you get the opportunity that you have earned.

If you elect to stay here, we will support you every step of the way. But, if you do move on, we will always be cheering for you wherever you may go.

Nick, thank you for showing an entire country what it means to never give up. Thank you for showing us a true underdog.

Most of all, thank you for making all of our dreams come true. Thank you for giving us what we have always wanted. Because of you, this city and this organization are better, and we forever owe you a debt of gratitude for that.
