Against all odds, DeAndre Carter gave the Philadelphia Eagles all he’s got in the preseason and should be rewarded with a spot on the 53-man roster.

A month ago, if someone said they were a fan of new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeAndre Carter, it’s pretty safe to say they were lying.

Carter came out of nowhere.

But now, as the team inches closer and closer to their final roster cutdowns, it’s safe to say that it’s Carter, not Greg Ward, Bryce Treggs, or Rashard Davis who could defy the odds and steal a spot on the final roster.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

Carter is this year’s Corey Clement.

And to keep it real, while Carter may not be making a pro bowl anytime soon, he’s certainly done everything in his power to make it incredibly hard for Howie Roseman to cut him loose on Saturday.

Do you want a shifty slot wide receiver with the ability to fight for yards across the middle of the field? Carter can do that.

Do you want a dynamic return man who averaged a very solid 12.6 yards per punt over the summer? Carter can do that too.

I mean, for goodness sake, Carter even made plays running down the field on special teams as a gunner, pinning the Jets deep in their own territory early in the first half.

Is there anything Carter can’t do?

Sure he’s small, sure he played at an FCS college, and yes, he’s bounced around from practice squad to practice squad since entering the league in 2015, but Carter has shown me that he’s far more than just your prototypical summer camp warrior.

While the team could simply opt to keep Kamar Aiken, Mike Mayock‘s safe sixth wide receiver pick going into the regular season, why not instead give a veteran like Carter an opportunity to continue to work his butt off week in and week out?

Next. Was Pumphrey’s performance too little too late?. dark

The Eagles won the Superbowl last season not because of talent or luck, but because of relentless effort. Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t mind adding another effort guy to the team.
