With Bryan Colangelo resigning on Thursday, the Philadelphia 76ers would be wise to consider hiring David Griffin as the new general manager to potentially help lure LeBron James.

In a story that seems like is going to be quite the popular topic of discussion over the next couple of months, Bryan Colangelo officially resigned from the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday as a result of the controversy surrounding the Twitter burner accounts.

Turns out, Colangelo’s wife, Barbara, admitted to operating the accounts after a law firm connected her to the matter, and to make the situation even worse, she also reportedly hit the factor reset button on her phone before a meeting.

In other words, Colangelo resigning, whether it was forced or not, was the best thing to happen to Philadelphia moving forward.

Otherwise, who knows how free agency or the NBA Draft would have played out down the road since chances any player expressing interest in joining the Sixers most likely would have felt some concerns over trust issues with Colangelo.

Not to mention, Colangelo still being around most likely would have turn the team’s chances to possibly land LeBron James, who many believe could leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second time when taking numerous factors into consideration.

Speaking of the Cavaliers, since the Sixers are in need of finding a new general manager after this whole fallout with Colangelo, the one name to keep an eye on moving forward is David Griffin.

As numerous writers have already pointed out, Philadelphia’s general manager position should be considered one of the hottest jobs in the NBA right now when looking at the potential surrounding this team in the next couple of years.

Without question, Griffin is one of the main reasons why the Cavaliers are currently in the middle of their fourth NBA Finals appearance in a row, and will always be considered a hero for helping Cleveland finally earn that championship two years ago. And even though things failed to work out for Griffin and the Cavaliers last summer after the two sides decided to part ways, a fresh start with a new team like the Sixers could be just what he needs.

Philadelphia was already considered an attractive possibility for a superstar like James since he would have the opportunity to play alongside young stars on the rise like Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Talent wise, James already knows what kind of potential there would be for the Sixers if he were to come on board, but if the team were to throw in a general manager like Griffin into the mix, this could make a deal even sweeter if it were to happen.

Landing James may still be considered a long shot at this point since the NBA Finals aren’t even officially over at the moment, but it’s tough not to think about the connection with Griffin that could come into play.

Between the NBA Draft quickly approaching along with all the free agents that are going to be available, the Sixers know they can’t afford to waste that much time on their search for a new general manager, so keep an eye on Griffin’s name over the next few weeks since this seems like a perfect fit.
