Michael Bennett of the Philadelphia Eagles has been indicted by a grand jury in Texas related to Super Bowl LI.

A few weeks ago, there was plenty of excitement surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles acquiring Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks to make the defensive line even stronger than it already was. Unfortunately, that excitement has taken a turn for the worse after the news broke on Friday that Bennett has been indicted by a grand jury in Harris County, Texas.

Turns out, Bennett is being charged with injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic that was working at NRG Stadium during Super Bowl LI. For the football fans that remember, this was the Super Bowl in which the New England Patriots pulled off that amazing comeback against the Atlanta Falcons, despite trailing 28-3 at one point in the second half.

As for how this Super Bowl relates to Bennett since he was a member of the Seahawks, keep in mind that Martellus Bennett, his brother, was a member of the Patriots at the time, so he was simply there in support. According to the report, the woman was injured when Bennett shoved her out of the way in order to get on the field to be part of the celebration when it became official that New England won, as the report below goes into further detail about.

While there’s been no word from Bennett on the incident, having an arrest warrant is the last thing Philadelphia wants to be dealing with at this point in the offseason for a player that hasn’t even suited up for an actual game yet. Instead of the excitement about a new member to the defensive line coming off three Pro Bowls in a row along with 23.5 sacks dating back to 2015, the Eagles now have to worry about how this situation plays out for Bennett.

Then again, when looking at how quickly the Seattle was willing to get rid of Bennett when they did earlier in the month, it’s hard not to wonder if the organization had some sort of idea over the possibility of this becoming an issue. Either way, for a player that has already been considered a headache by many, this latest incident certainly doesn’t help Bennett’s case to make himself look like a better individual, and it will be interesting to see what happens from here now that he’s been indicted.
