Philadelphia Eagles: For Philly, it’s not just about getting to Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles are in their first Super Bowl in 13 years, but the team and the city are not just satisfied with getting to the Super Bowl.

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles were in the Super Bowl was back in 2005. That appearance seemed long overdue given the fact that the Eagles had made the NFC Championship the three years prior and failed to advance. So just finally getting over that hump was satisfying for the city of Philadelphia.

You don’t want to use complacent to describe how Eagles’ fans felt going into the Super Bowl that year because they still wanted to win more than anything. But after three years of failing to get to the big game, they were just happy to finally be in the Super Bowl.

This time around, the team nor the city of Philadelphia is satisfied with just getting to the Super Bowl.

As Malcolm Jenkins said after the NFC Championship, “We aren’t just going to the Super Bowl, but we are going there to win.”

Are we happy that the Eagles are in the Super Bowl? Without a doubt, the answer is yes. And are we all proud of what this team has accomplished given everything it has been through? Absolutely. Win or lose this team has had a fantastic year and likely has an extremely bright future.

Losing in the Super Bowl is an awful feeling and a feeling this city went through in 1981 and 2005. Winning on the overhand is an amazing feeling, and something Philadelphia has never experienced, but that can change on Sunday night.

After coming so close so many times, this city wants a championship more than anything. The Eagles are such an accomplished and storied franchise but are missing just one thing in their storied history, and that is a Super Bowl championship.

Many teams are just happy with making it to the big game, but this time around we are not satisfied with just making it. The Eagles may be playing the greatest dynasty in NFL history, but the Eagles aren’t going to lay down and they are here to do one thing only and that is to finally bring a Super Bowl back to the city of brotherly love.

This has been an incredible journey and we have been through so much. But on Sunday we can finally put the cherry on top and celebrate something we have never celebrated before. Because the Eagles aren’t contempt with just being in the Super Bowl, they are there to win a Super Bowl and won’t stop until that happens.
