As the Philadelphia Eagles get ready to play their final regular season game of the 2017 season, can Doug Pederson afford to play Nick Foles?

Coming into the month of December, the Philadelphia Eagles were fresh off of running through, over and around the Chicago Bears improving their NFL leading record to 10-1. They outscored their opponents 124-73 during that torrid stretch, finishing 4-0.

Heading into the month of January the Eagles still boast the best record in the league, the team went 3-1 only outscoring their opponents during that span 106-98. We may be the only team to potentially go 14-2 and have an ominous feeling heading into the playoffs.

After watching quarterback Nick Foles give a less than stellar effort against the Oakland Raiders on last Monday night, I would not be truthful at all if I said that I am comfortable with our offensive rhythm that the Eagles are currently dancing to. They seem disjointed, a step behind, just a little offbeat.

Marching to the beat of their own drum, the hated and ticked off Dallas Cowboys head into the Linc on Sunday remembering the derogatory way that the Eagles dismissed them after walking into AT&T Stadium in Dallas and molly whopping the Ezekiel Elliott-less Cowboys. In fact, some of the Eagles may as well have called their rivals ‘Cowgirls’. They accused them of throwing in the white flag and just pretty much rolling over and letting Philly have its way with them.

After seeing what Foles looked like against the Raiders there may be cause for concern here.

In a perfect world, Foles would play two series, score on both and then give us a look at a very exciting young quarterback in former Indiana QB and lone backup Nate Sudfeld.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

The 6-foot-6, 227-pound former sixth-round pick broke into the league with the Washington Redskins and could benefit from some game action against a charged up Cowboy team ESPECIALLY if he is the primary backup for the playoffs. But of more concern, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is without Foles the Eagles have zero chance of winning this years’ Super Bowl.

We have seen time and again a team with a stout run defense (Eagles ranked number one against the run) and a solid running attack all that is needed from the quarterback is game management. I believe that Foles is a better, more talented quarterback than former Bears Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon. He’s even a better quarterback than Tampa Bay‘s Trent Dilfer and he has a ring.

With Pederson rolling the dice and activating rookie CB Sidney Jones it appears that he believes that we can win it all with Foles at the helm. He is, in essence, saying that he owes it to the fans and the front seven to put his best product on the field and let the chips fall where they fall.

Playing Foles too much on Sunday could be a major mistake but with all that being said I am reminded that Pederson’s decisions have been questioned since before the regular season began and time and time again he’s come out smelling like roses. Foles can manage the game enough to give our defense an opportunity to shine or our special teams the opportunity to show why they have been so special all year.

This could be our year, despite the rash of injuries, the out-of-this-world performances New Orleans‘ QB has been putting up so far this season, and the fact that we lost our own all-world quarterback just weeks before the playoffs, but that all goes down the drain if Foles goes down on Sunday.
