On this Thanksgiving, let’s take a look at some of the things that all Philadelphia Eagles fans should be thankful for this year.

Every year on Thanksgiving, many people use this day as an opportunity to express what they are thankful for.  Family and friends are just some of the many things that many are thankful for, and this year, the Philadelphia Eagles have given their fans plenty to be thankful in 2017.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles headline a city that is loaded with potential and has many players that could be future superstars. Above all other is Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Every time Wentz goes out there for the Eagles, fans are always thankful that defacto general manager Howie Roseman made the move almost two years ago to move up and draft Wentz.

After going through some rookie growing pains, Wentz has played at an MVP level in 2017. So far this season Wentz leads the league in touchdown passes with 25 and has his team sitting at 9-1. But, there’s so much more to be thankful for on this team than just the team’s second year quarterback.

After seeing a need for more talent around Wentz after last season, Roseman went out and made splash after splash this past offseason. There is no doubt that Howie had a great offseason, and a matter of fact he probably won the offseason.

The Eagles got more pieces on offense; signing Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, and LeGarrette Blount, in addition to drafting wide receiver Mack Hollins. Howie also finessed the Miami Dolphins into giving the Eagles running back Jay Ajayi for a fourth-round pick.

That fourth-round pick used in the Ajayi trade just happened to come from the Sam Bradford trade in September 2016 that not just allowed Wentz to play, but also got the Eagles a first round pick in 2017. But who did that first round pick turn into? None other than rookie defensive end Derek Barnett, a player who’s already racked up 4 and a half sacks in what has been a very impressive rookie season.

Drafting Barnett was not the only move that Howie made on defense that we can be thankful for. Roseman went out and stocked the cornerback position by signing unsung hero Patrick Robinson, in addition to trading for Ronald Darby and drafting Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas.

Of all of those moves, none of them were even the best acquisition Roseman made on the defensive side of the ball. That came when the Eagles dealt a third-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for Tim Jernigan and a draft pick; a pick that later became Douglas.

Jernigan has played lights out so far this season, he and linemate Fletcher Cox have helped to form one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. Timmy has played so well that he has already earned a contract extension to keep him in Philadelphia for at least the next four seasons.

It is not just signing big-name stars that we can be thankful to the Eagles for. They have made depth a priority over the years and even though the Eagles have lost some big players this season to injuries, their depth has been strong enough that they have experienced no drop-off. Just think of Halapoulivaati Vaitai for example, who the Eagles drafted in 2016.

A huge thank you can go to the Eagles general manager for helping to put them in the position they are now. It can not be understated how much Roseman has had to do after the whole Chip Kelly fiasco. The Eagles have turned back into a good team so quickly because of good coaching from head coach Doug Pederson.

After facing a lot of criticisms early on, Doug has turned into a coach of the year candidate. His play calling and game management have improved dramatically and he has this team buying in and is a huge reason for the great team chemistry the Eagles have.

Thanks to great personnel moves, improved coaching, leadership, and development at the quarterback position, the Eagles are in the position they are in today. On this Thanksgiving, Eagles fans can be extremely thankful for all of this and getting to enjoy a winning season and a possible first playoff berth since 2013.
