Should Eagles be concerned over Alshon Jeffery’s ankle injury?
By Dan Parzych
Alshon Jeffery and the Philadelphia Eagles return from the bye week with a key matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11.
After enjoying some much needed rest during their bye week, the Philadelphia Eagles will be back in action Week 11 for the first of two meetings with one of their favorite rivals in the NFC East, the Dallas Cowboys. At 8-1, the Eagles currently have the best record in the NFL, and as great as the offense has been playing under Carson Wentz, there may be some concern over Alshon Jeffery heading into Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys.

Unfortunately, Jeffery has been dealing with an ankle injury that didn’t fully recover during the bye week, and even though the wideout claims he’ll be ready to go for Sunday night’s game against Dallas, it’s tough not to worry at least a little bit. Entering the offseason, Philadelphia realized the only way to get the best out of Wentz on offense was to provide the quarterback with better weapons to work with, and through nine games, the decision to convince Jeffery to come on board for a one-year deal was one of the best moves the team could have made.
Just look at the kind of impact Jeffery was able to make two weeks ago against the Denver Broncos in which he caught six passes for 84 yards with two touchdowns, and it’s clear how valuable of a weapon he’s been to the offense this season. But when considering one of the main reasons why the Eagles gave Jeffery his current deal was due to his history of injuries, the ankle potentially continuing to be an issue could be a problem.

With a desperate team like Dallas looking to continue building a strong case for a playoff spot in the NFC, Philadelphia is going to need all of the help they can get from key players on both sides of the football, including Jeffery. Sure, there are plenty of other receivers who could step up if needed, but Jeffery is a special kind of player, and the Eagles would love to see a similar performance against the Cowboys from two weeks ago to help build that lead even more in the NFC East.
