Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay unfortunately died in a plane crash off the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday at the age of 40.
The sports world received terrible news on Tuesday afternoon after hearing that former Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay died at the age of 40 after his plane crashed off the Gulf of Mexico. Heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to describe how baseball fans feel at the moment because even after his retirement in 2013, Doc was still considered one of the most respected players to ever play the game.

From his no-hitter in the 2010 NLDS against the Cincinnati Reds just months after recording a perfect game during the regular season to making an impact over the years in Philadelphia with numerous teammates, it’s devastating to see Halladay leave earth this soon, as he was simply one of a kind. Times like these make it difficult to put into words just how special of an individual Halladay truly was, so in honor of the former Phillies ace, it only seemed fitting to show what current members of the organization and some of his former teammates had to say about the former pitcher.

Details are still coming in as far as what exactly went wrong with Halladay’s plane, but either way, it doesn’t make this news any easier to deal with. Halladay joined the Phillies through a trade with the Blue Jays prior to the 2010 season, and even though he was never able to earn that trip to the World Series, the ace still provided fans with plenty of memories during his four years with the team.
