When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Mack Hollins in the 4th round of the 2017 NFL Draft, it was looked at as a pick geared towards the future. Through seven weeks Hollins continues to succeed in whatever role he is put into, which is why he deserves a shot in the starting lineup.

Mack Hollins was never supposed to have an offensive role this season for the Philadelphia Eagles, and yet he is on the verge of forcing his way into the starting lineup. In Week 7 against the Washington Redskins, Hollins proved to fans why investing in a fourth-round pick was a smart move. Hauling in a 64-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz for the first Eagles touchdown was electrifying. Hollins, who has an incredible combination of size and speed, was easily able to get past the coverage, catching the deep pass and basically walking into the end zone. He has received snaps on offense this year, but this play highlighted the type of game Hollins can bring to the offense, and the reason why he deserves more playing time.

Torrey Smith was brought in this offseason as a free agent to give Philadelphia a deep threat that takes pressure off of top free agent signing Alshon Jeffery. Smith has shown glimpses of being that player, but through seven weeks the production just hasn’t been there. Couple the potential of Hollins along with the breakout season of Nelson Agholor, and there doesn’t seem to be a need for Smith in the lineup. Used as a deep threat, Smith has seen that role diminished because of Agholor’s ability to run deep routes as well. Smith can still play a role off of the bench, but Hollins potential should be enough to give him the edge to start.

By giving Hollins a shot in the starting lineup, Philadelphia will have two of the biggest wide receivers in the league lining up on the outside (Hollins is 6′ 4″ while Jeffery is 6′ 3″). The size and speed of Hollins is comparable to some of the best receivers in the league, and giving him time to connect with Wentz can only help him grow as a player.

A special teams ace for the Eagles, Hollins deserves more. He thrives in whatever role you put him in, and now is time to see what he can do as a starting wide receiver for Philadelphia in the passing game.
