Eagles face tough challenges ahead after losing Peters, Hicks for season
By Dan Parzych
Week 7 wasn’t too kind to the Philadelphia Eagles after the team lost Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks for the season.
Through seven games, the Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL, as they currently head into their Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with the best record in football at 6-1. But as great as it was to see this team sweep the Redskins on the season thanks to their 34-24 on Monday, the Eagles also ended up in the losing column when it comes to injuries surrounding Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks.

Sadly, both Peters (torn ACL and MCL) and Hicks (torn Achilles’ tendon) will miss the remainder of the season after suffering injuries against Washington, giving Philadelphia crushing blows on both sides of the football. Nobody needs to explain to the Eagles just how valuable both of these players are, and while there’s a popular saying about the next man stepping up, replacing dominant players like Peters and Hicks won’t be an easy task.
For a team that has been waiting a long time to get back into the mix of being contenders, the news surrounding Peters and Hicks was the last thing the Eagles wanted to deal with at this point in the season. Seeing Philadelphia emerge with the best record in the NFL when most analysts predicted them to finish second or third at best in the NFC East has given this city high expectations for the first time in what seems like forever after years of struggling.

Obviously, as long as Carson Wentz is healthy enough to lineup under center, Philadelphia’s chances to earn a spot in the postseason are still very high, when seeing how the former first-round pick is playing at a MVP level. As for how the replacements for Peters on offense and Hicks on defense will play out, only time will tell for the Eagles, but no matter what, it’s certainly not going to be easy to adjust to.
