Zach Ertz’s previous success against Redskins sets bar high for Eagles in Week 7
By Dan Parzych
With the Washington Redskins in town, the Philadelphia Eagles hope Zach Ertz remains hot in the passing game on Monday night.
At 5-1, the Philadelphia Eagles head into Monday night’s meeting against the Washington Redskins with the best record in the NFL at the moment, and there’s nothing they would love more than to keep it that way. Of course, the Redskins certainly won’t make it easy for them when considering a win against the Eagles will help Jay Gruden‘s squad inch closer to the top of the NFC East, so there will be plenty on the line when these two rivals square off in front of a national spotlight.

While numerous factors will come into play when it comes to whether Philadelphia can improve to 6-1 on the year, one key player to keep an eye on on offense will be tight end Zach Ertz, who has a history of solid performances against Washington throughout his career. Dating back to last season, Ertz has arguably been Carson Wentz‘s favorite target to work with, and after seeing the two connect for three trips into the end zone over the previous two games, the Eagles would love nothing more than to see that success continue on Monday night.
In fact, with another touchdown catch, Ertz will already set a new career high, meaning it’s going to come at some point for the Eagles tight end. But more importantly, Philadelphia and Wentz should be focused on Ertz’s previous success against Washington, including a Week 1 game in which he caught all eight passes thrown in his direction for a total of 93 yards.

Believe it or not, Ertz has caught at least eight passes in three of the last five meetings with the Redskins, so it’s easy to understand why there’s so much hype surrounding him having another big game in Week 7. And if that does happen, there’s a good chance the Eagles will continue their surprise success by continuing to have the best record in the NFL, assuming the defense comes through on their end as well by containing Kirk Cousins.
