The Philadelphia Flyers suffered a tough 6-5 loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday to drop to 2-2 on the season.

While the Philadelphia Flyers deserve plenty of credit for opening their 2017-18 season with four games on the road, the team missed out on a golden opportunity to finish this tough road trip with an impressive 3-1 record after falling to the Nashville Predators 6-5 on Tuesday night. Obviously, the score indicates this matchup turned into a hard-fought battle between these two days, but when seeing how everything went down at the end, there’s simply no excuse for the Flyers.

Hanging on to a 5-4 lead in the final minutes, it was one thing for Philadelphia to allow Scott Hartnell to score with a 1:17 remaining in the game, but to allow Filip Forsberg to do the same shortly after to basically seal the victory for Nashville was beyond frustrating. It would be one thing if the Predators forced overtime, but there’s no excuse for a team like the Flyers to allow two quick goals this late in the game, let alone picking up those two costly penalties that ended up backfiring big time.

Not to mention, it would have been a bitter sweet feeling for Philadelphia to ruin opening night for Nashville, which coincidentally was also a celebration for the team as defending Western Conference champions. So when taking everything into consideration, it’s easy to understand why the Flyers may be kicking themselves after this tough loss since they went from being a lock for earning points in the standings to receiving nothing at all.

To top it off, Philadelphia has another touch matchup this weekend when the Washington Capitals come to town for the team’s season opener at home. With a few days to recover from the long road trip, here’s to hoping the Flyers will be well rested for Saturday to hand the Capitals their first loss of the season while helping them move on from the loss to the Predators.
