In a recent survey by Dick’s Sporting Goods, Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz ranks in the top ten of all NFL jersey sales.

In the NFL, the best way to gauge a player’s popularity comes down to two things: social media followings and jersey sales. Buying a player’s jersey signifies how a player is received by the fan base. Obviously, buying a jersey is a huge commitment, given how expensive they are. That said, fans seem to gravitate towards Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz.

More from Section 215

According to Dick’s Sporting Good, one of the premier sporting goods stores in the United States, Wentz ranked fifth in jersey sales last season. He’s the only Philadelphia Eagles player in the top 100 from this year’s team. Interesting enough, former Eagles’ wide receiver Jordan Matthews ranked in the top 100 from his days in Philly. Other than that, Eagle’s tight end Zach Ertz landed the 93rd spot on the list.

Other than that, Eagle’s tight end Zach Ertz landed the 93rd spot on the list. It makes sense that he’d end up on this list, given the fact that Ertz had his best year last season. However, the defense got no love on this list. Guys like Malcolm Jenkins and Fletcher Cox couldn’t crack the top 100. They both play huge roles on that side of the ball, but for some reason get no recognition for it.

QB Love

Although, it just goes to show that people love franchise quarterbacks. Of the top 100, 28 of the players listed played quarterback. Wentz only trailed two other quarterbacks on the list. Tom Brady and Dak Prescott clocked in at first and second in jersey sales. Brady makes sense. He arguably ranks as the best quarterback of all time. You can love him or hate him, but Brady definitely deserves his spot on the list. The New England Patriots certainly love him.

Next, we have Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. He lands his spot on the list simply by bursting on the scene and dominating. While you can make the argument that his offensive line and running back Ezekiel Elliot both played a major role in his success, Prescott deserves some credit. Fans were drawn by the fact that he led a team he wasn’t supposed to inherit to a playoff berth.

But, regardless of any of that, the fact that Carson Wentz made the top five shows how likable he is. Yes, the Philadelphia Eagles still need some work, but they can rest soundly knowing they have a guy like Wentz at the helm. He’s a popular guy in Philly, and will hopefully bring success to a town that desperately needs it.
