The Phillies are watching a hopeful star in the making in Rhys Hoskins. Is it too soon to put him amongst some of the most promising names in Philadelphia sports?

Call it too soon if you’d like. But Rhys Hoskins has been the most exciting player to watch right now when it comes to Philadelphia sports. Even through a dull Phillies season, Hoskins is bringing attention to the team.

The power hitting rookie has hit 11 home runs in 18 games, putting up some of the best numbers the Phillies have ever seen from a player in that span. His star power is rising with each swing of the bat. Hoskins came into the season as a touted prospect, but no one could imagine this type of immediate success.

Through the J.P. Crawfords and Aaron Nolas of the world, it’s Rhys Hoskins that’s shining through. Sure, I’d still put Nola ahead of Hoskins….for now. But it’s not a stretch at all to say he surpassed J.P. Crawford as a staple for the future. And that’s not a knock on Crawford one bit. It’s just a showing sign of how Hoskins skyrocketed to the top of fans’ lists of potential stars.

More from Philadelphia Phillies

Hoskins is just starting his career. Even Sixers’ star Joel Embiid has more of an established resumé. Does Hoskins rank ahead of Embiid or Ben Simmons in terms of potential stars. Probably too soon to put him above those two, even with Simmons failing to step onto the court yet. Embiid and Simmons probably have the brightest futures ahead of them out of any Philly sports figure right now, outside of maybe Carson Wentz.

Wentz was the center of a deal that was set to change the course of the city’s favorite franchise. A lot of pressure is always put on the quarterback, and multiply that by five in Philadelphia. Despite the fact that the Eagles were out of the playoffs, Wentz was nothing short of spectacular.

So where does Rhys Hoskins rank amongst these guys. I’d say somewhere above Crawford and Markelle Fultz, but below prospects like Aaron Nola, Embiid, Simmons, and Wentz. But that’s not a list to be ashamed to be at the bottom of.

Rhys Hoskins right now is catching fire. And if this type of production sustains, he’ll shoot straight to the top of this list sooner than later. For now, let’s just enjoy this incredible display of power.
