Philadelphia Eagles sign Corey Graham
The Philadelphia Eagles bring in Corey Graham, a veteran swiss army knife type player in the secondary, starting at safety and corner in his career.
The Philadelphia Eagles have brought in Corey Graham on a one-year contract to compete for a starting position in the Eagles secondary.
Graham, a Superbowl winner in 2012 with the Ravens, will have all the opportunity in the world to battle for a starting spot on this roster. Eagles coaches and management haven’t been shy to discuss their lack of secondary depth.
With the two safety positions accounted for, it is safe to assume that Graham has been brought in to play corner, a position he has played in the past. In Graham’s 10 year career he has played corner for 8 of them, the last 2 playing safety for Buffalo.
Coming in, Graham has multiple ties to the Eagles. Graham played for Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in 2014 while they were both with the Buffalo Bills. Vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas also knows Graham when they were both with the Ravens in 2012 and 2013.

If Graham has been brought in to compete at the corner back position, there isn’t much ahead of him. Veteran Patrick Robinson, Jalen Mills and Ron Brooks are the favorites to start come September. That trio is not the most formidable bunch, if coach Schwartz can get what he got from Graham during his time in Buffalo than Graham will have the inside track on starting.
Graham was very productive in his last 3 years in Buffalo, while playing corner and safety, Graham started 41 games with 5 interceptions and 214 tackles.
The Eagles are aware they are slim at corner and fans ought to be happy they are doing something about this weakness right now. Yes, everyone is waiting for Sidney Jones, although there is no time-table for his return, Eagles fans and coaches alike will be salivating to hear if he is ready to play this season.
But teams can’t wait for an injured rookie or hope they are capable of starting in there first season. The same can be said for Rookie Rasul Douglas. Douglas is also in the mix for some serious playing time, only practice and pre-season will determine if we see Douglas on the field this season.
