Philadelphia Phillies select Adam Haseley with the eighth pick in the MLB Draft
By Chuck Booth
It is time to welcome the newest member of the Philadelphia Phillies Adam Haseley
Hailing from the University of Virginia, Adam Haseley will be joining a talented group of youngsters for the Philadelphia Phillies. Following the selection of Mickey Moniak last year and Cornelius Randolph (as a shortstop) in 2015, the Phillies have now selected an outfielder three years straight. It will be interesting to see how this position of strength shakes out in the future but Haseley was the best hitter on the board when the Phillies made their selection.
The team is clear that they would like to add pop to the lineup and they did just that by adding a high upside bat to the team. Adam Haseley’s skill that set him apart from other top outfielders is that he is able to hit for contact while avoiding strikeouts. With his profile, he is a guy that could rise through the farm system quickly.
Now that Adam Haseley will be focusing on pitching full-time, his bat only projects to get better as he moves towards the majors. He was heavily linked to the Philadelphia Phillies along with Pavin Smith who was taken one pick earlier by the Diamondbacks.

Adam Haseley projects as a corner outfielder with above average speed in the future but the key will be seeing if he is able to gain pull power as his body fills out.
The Phillies may have a logjam of outfielders in the system but you don’t complain about having too much talent. Injuries can happen at any time forcing someone to step into an unfamiliar situation. Worst case scenario, the surplus outfielders can be packaged to grab someone for a position of need in the future.
Welcome to Philadelphia Adam!
