It’s easy to look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ season and see that they need a new wide receiver in order to take Carson Wentz to the next level.

But the question is who would make the Philadelphia Eagles better and more importantly, who would fit into their strained cap situation? Terrelle Pryor? Not proven enough. Alshon Jeffery? I’ll pass at what is price will likely be. DeSean Jackson? At the right price and if other additions are being made, I can be sold on. But what about Kenny? Don’t worry we didn’t kill Kenny today but I’d like to go over two undervalued free agent wide receivers, Kenny Stills and Kenny Britt.

Both of these guys are coming off of good seasons and both would be huge upgrades for the Philadelphia Eagles. With the addition of Mike Groh to the coaching staff, rumors have begun to swirl heavily about Kenny Britt joining him in Philadelphia and rightfully so. Britt had a career year under Groh and it was in an otherwise punchless offense.

But while that Kenny was being old reliable in Los Angeles, another was on pace for a career year in Miami. Kenny Stills became Ryan Tannehill‘s favorite target, especially on the deep ball. While he was still inconsistent, going for 726 yards (not counting the 82-yard performance in the playoff loss to Pittsburgh. Britt was able to amass 1002 yards with the Rams under Groh’s tutelage after never living up to his potential with both the Titans and Saint Louis Rams. Production wise, Britt get’s the nod here.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

Experience is where things get interesting here. Usually, in free agency, the youngest option is the better option but looking at the Philadelphia Eagles core the savvy veteran is Jordan Matthews… Not really what you’d consider an experienced vet in the league. Adding Stills would bring in another talented young receiver who could develop into a deep ball threat with Carson Wentz but it wouldn’t solve the issue of the receiving core needing a leader. Stills is an option that would need to be pursued with adding a veteran in mind as well. Stills is a guy that could work in tandem with DeSean Jackson or Brandon Marshall to take pressure off of him to succeed immediately.

Britt isn’t old at 28 but the experience matters. When he came into the league, Britt had all the talent in the world but was hampered by injuries. When healthy like last year, Britt is a true number one option who can win 1-1 battles with corners on his own. It’s the type of receiver that this offense craves in order to be successful because it’s clear that Matthews isn’t that guy. Just adding Britt would bring the offense to new levels because he demands focus from the defense. The reason why Britt is so intriguing is that he can work as the only addition to the team.

With the Philadelphia Eagles strained salary cap situation it’s key that they hit on each free agent that they go after. If they were to sign Britt, my money is on Nelson Agholor still being a member of the team next year. Let Groh get a year to see if he can unlock his talent and if not then cut him. Also, adding Britt means that the Eagles can go in any direction in the draft. Having a true all-around receiver on the roster means that they aren’t hurt if Corey Davis doesn’t fall to them and can add someone who may be more of a project.

When it comes down to cash Britt may be slightly more expensive but it really depends on what the Dolphins offer Stills in free agency. It’s clear that they love him in Miami and rightfully so but their offer could also put him out of the Eagles price range.

Given the state of the Philadelphia Eagles now, I’d rather see one addition be made to the receiving core and the cash saved there to be used in improving the other holes around the team. Adding an all around threat (Britt) rather than someone who needs support allows the Eagles to do this.
