Philadelphia Eagles Should Hope Sam Bradford Performs Well

The Philadelphia Eagles should be hoping Sam Bradford performs well this season, but not for a short-term goal.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a potential gem sitting low on their quarterback depth chart in Carson Wentz. There is a plan to let Wentz slowly transition into the NFL, instead of starting right away. The plan can be debated, but what won’t be debated is the fact that Sam Bradford will be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles once the first snap of the season comes.
Sam Bradford, despite all the melodrama, is still the man in charge with the task of leading the Philadelphia Eagles this season and it’s in the best long-term interest for him to succeed this season. Many fans are hoping for Bradford to stumble out of the gate, insinuating a push for Wentz to start at some point of the season.
Patience is the key here for the Philadelphia Eagles, and with that patience the team is hoping Sam Bradford has a successful year. This year’s Super Bowl hopes are seemingly already out, as the team doesn’t boast too much talent at the skill position, but a healthy and successful year for Bradford could build trade value.

At this point, not one team would make a significant offer for Bradford, an injury quarterback who struggles with the deep ball at times, but that may change with a big season this year. The Philadelphia Eagles are coming in with an average wide receiver core at best, so a huge year from Bradford would be a spectacular feat and the rest of the league will have their eyes open.
Bradford is on a 2-year, $36 million deal, so trading for him wouldn’t bring the opposing team much long-term financial risk. The Philadelphia Eagles will happily send off Bradford in return for mid-round picks, even happier with higher draft picks. Bradford’s hypothetical big season could bring up his value and open up a market of mid to lower-level teams in need of a proven NFL quarterback. Even with a big season, it may be tough for the Philadelphia Eagles to move Bradford with a somewhat valuable return, but there’s still positives.
The plan to let Carson Wentz into the NFL could stretch further than just this season, and a great performance from Bradford would allow the Philadelphia Eagles to fully commit to that plan. As the roster stands now, the team won’t be a serious contender for a championship, but as it develops over the next two seasons they could become more formidable.
The two-year stretch of benching Wentz would mean he’d come in with a more polished and talented roster. In addition to that, Wentz would be soaking up the system and the NFL game for two whole seasons, allowing him to step in and be effective right away once his time comes. If Bradford flops this season, that two-year plan could be cut in half as general manager Howie Roseman may see pressure to start Wentz the following year.
The two options the Philadelphia Eagles have if Bradford does indeed have a big season could seem contradictory but they both bring value to the team and the future of Carson Wentz.
