6th round (196 overall): Blake Countess, Cornerback, Auburn

Measurables: 5’9// 184

Analysis:

In the sixth round, Philadelphia finally went to the defensive side of the ball by selecting Auburn cornerback Blake Countess. Countess started all 13 games this past season for Auburn and presents the Eagles with options as he can play outside CB, Nickel, Slot, and Safety. Countess is a willing tackler which will make him viable in run stopping situations. Because of his size, Countess options are limited outside but can be key at nickel or slot.

Projection:

Look for Countess to start out as a special teamer and a depth guy at the cornerback position. He will battle it out for the slot corner position in the summer with JaCorey Shepard and the guy we will discuss next, but for 2016, Countless will provide his value as a special teams guy. When looking at Countless, think a poor man’s Brandon Boykin.

GRADE: B

Countess provides much-needed depth to the Eagles secondary and will most likely see time at special teams come week one. Look for Countess to take over EJ Biggers’ role before all the injuries last year.
