Philadelphia Eagles 2016 Draft: Results, Analysis, Grades
7th round (233 overall): Jalen Mills, Free Safety, LSU
Measurables: 6’0// 191 lbs.
Analysis:
My favorite pick by the Philadelphia Eagles this year, Jalen Mills was selected in the 7th round. Mills viewed by some as a second-round pick slid because of injury and off the field concerns. Mills provides the Eagles with immense versatility, as Mills played outside cornerback before switching to Free Safety at LSU. He is an ideal size for a safety at 6’0 191lbs. and will provide good depth behind Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McCleod.
Projection:
Look for Mills to compete for a starting spot at nickel and slot right away. He presents good size at either of those positions and it’s exciting to see what kinds of ways defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will use Mills this upcoming season. Mills’s lack of speed could stop him from competing for an outside corner spot (4.61 40) but he provides good defensive back instincts and comes from LSU, who has provided the NFL with a bevy of good secondary players in past years.
GRADE: A+
I love this pick. The Philadelphia Eagles got an absolute steal in the seventh round by picking Mills, who had a second round grade on him coming into the draft. He provides immediate depth at all secondary positions and could win the number three corner position coming out of training camp.
