3rd round (79 overall): Isaac Seumalo, Offensive Line, Oregon State

Measurables: 6’4// 303 lbs.

Analysis:

More from Philadelphia Eagles

Because of the Carson Wentz trade, the Philadelphia Eagles did not pick until the 3rd round and with that pick took offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo from Oregon State. This pick for me is eerily reminiscent of the Jordan Hicks pick last year, a no name to the fans with plenty of names on the board to pick. I was puzzled when the pick came in but can see why the Eagles like him. Seumalo is a big physical interior lineman, at 6’4 303 he fits the mold of what Pederson is trying to build with his lineman. His biggest upside comes in his versatility. Seumalo played every position on the offensive line during his career at Oregon State with his best position and possibly biggest potential being at center. Seumalo excels at run blocking and will compliment nicely with Brandon Brooks, one of the Eagles’ free agent signings, who is slated to start at right guard. Seumalo has a nasty side to him and when you watch highlights, the biggest thing that stands out is his ability to finish his blocks. Many times, I saw Seumalo ending up on top of a defensive lineman.

Here he is flattening San Francisco 49ers first round pick this year, DeForest Buckner.

Projection:

Seumalo adds much need depth to the Eagles offensive line. He figures to compete for a starting spot immediately at left guard in training camp and don’t be surprised if the rookie is a starter come week one. I see Seumalo as a solid left guard that could slide over to center if something ever happens to Jason Kelce, which could propel him to another level.

GRADE: C+

The only reason this pick is not higher is because of the players the Eagles passed on. Players such as Le’Raven Clark, Braxton Miller, Leonte Carroo and Kenneth Dixon I think could have been better picks at this spot and see Seumalo as a reach at the spot the Eagles picked him in. But, his versatility and consistency enticed the Eagles. Can’t argue this pick.
