Week Six: Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins

Sunday, October 16, 1:00 PM (FOX)

History: Redskins lead all time series 84-73-5; Last Two Meetings: (2015) 23-20 Redskins 38-24 Redskins

Week six will be the first of six division games for the Eagles as they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Redskins.

Story lines

2015 was the first time in three years the Eagles dropped both regular season games to Washington. Overall, this rivalry always pales in comparison to the Cowboys games, but it will always be a bigger rivalry than it already is because of former Eagle and Redskin WR DeSean Jackson.

Speaking on the topic of Jackson, this will be the first time he faces the team that drafted him without Chip Kelly at the helm, although, it most likely wont change his opinion on the team that cut after a pro bowl season.

It is also the first time the Eagles will get a glimpse of the 2016 Kirk Cousins. In his first full year as the starting quarterback, Cousins exploded onto the scene with over 4,000 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns.

By week six, the Eagles should know what Cousins they are game planning for. Will they be planning for the 2015 version of Cousins? Or does 2015 prove to be a one hit wonder for the former Michigan State Spartan?

My big match up for this game and potentially might determine the outcome of this game is Redskins tight end Jordan Reed versus the tandem of Eagles linebackers Jordan Hicks and Mychal Kendricks. The most previous match up against the Eagles, Reed put up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

If Reed can continue this, Washington will most likely come out on top. This match up will also hinge on the health of Hicks and Kendricks. Both haven’t been able to stay healthy either at the college or pro levels. Hicks was having a spectacular year for the Eagles, looking like a defensive rookie of the year candidate until he tore his pectoral on November 8th, putting him out for the year.

Kendricks, who can excel in pass coverage vs tight ends, has also been sidelined by nagging injures which has prevented him to reaching his full potential. Can he stay on the field and be the play maker the Eagles think he his? He has certainly shown the ability to do so.

Prediction: LOSS (3-2)

I think the Redskins will win this one, in part because of Cousins and Reed but also because the game is in Washington. The Eagles have dropped the last two games that have been in Washington. Add that with the injury concerns for Kendricks and Hicks I just see Reed having another good performance against the Eagles and that being the difference in the game.
