Eagles Cutdown Tracker: Saturday September 5th

It’s hard to believe that we are five days into the ninth month of the year already, but it means that the Philadelphia Eagles are forced to get down to their 53-man final roster by 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Yesterday, the team reportedly informed a good chunk of players that they will waive them, and they won’t make the 53-man roster. Those names, per multiple reports, include Brian Mihalik, John Moffitt, Kip Smith, Julian Vandervelde, Quron Pratt, Deotae Skinner, Andrew Gleichert, Rasheed Bailey, Brett Boyko, Malcolm Bunche, Chris Prosinski, Randall Evans, Raheem Mostert, Eric Tomlinson, Ed Reynolds.

Matt Barkley was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, while there were trade rumors surrounding Najee Goode and Jaylen Watkins. (One report suggested that Watkins was released.)

If you wish to see the original reports on any of the cuts or trade, visit yesterday’s tracker. It features full attribution to the reporters who originally broke the stories, with more specifics on the trades and some of the releases.

Here’s today’s tracker, with the new reports getting pushed to the top. So the order will go new to old, hopefully making things easier to follow….

Update 1:30 p.m.

Here are the Eagles’ final cuts, with Chip scheduled to step to the podium.

Update 1:10 p.m.

The Eagles are reportedly interested in the recently released Christian Ponder. I guess that’s a sexy name for a third-stringer, right?

Getlin, who does a good job for the NFL Network, also says that Tim Tebow was close to making the Eagles. That makes you think it isn’t completely impossible that he ends up back here at some point.

Update 1:01 p.m.

Better late than never, Jeff Maehl will not return to the Eagles for a third season.

Update 12:55 p.m.

According to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the Eagles may just head into the season with two quarterbacks, but would like to add a better third-stringer than Matt Barkley or Tim Tebow. Cue the E.J. Manuel, Robert Griffin III speculation. Of course, neither of them are available right now.

Howard Eskin says they are looking through the scrap heap.

Update 12:50 p.m.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com has confirmed that the Eagles have released Jaylen Watkins. Howard Eskin reported this last night. Parks passed along last night that the team was shopping him, and would part ways with him one way or another.

Update 12:20 p.m.

Tebow has been released. Based on things that Chip has said in the past, I would still be the Eagles sign a third quarterback, though it seems at least possible that the team enters the season with only two quarterbacks. In a worse case scenario, injury-wise, they could always bring someone like Tebow back.

10:33 a.m.

Take this one for what it’s worth, but Howard Eskin is reporting that Tim Tebow may actually still be cut by the Eagles. Matt Lombardo of 97.5 the Fanatic has since followed up on this and said something similar.
