What Does Kelly See In Sam Bradford? – Birds 24/7

Many Eagles fans are still puzzled at the notion that Sam Bradford could really be the Eagles’ starting quarterback on Opening Day.

Sheil Kapadia wrote a piece in which he watched a lot of film on Bradford, and evaluated some of the positive attributes he brings to the table that could make Kelly want to work with him.

Among them is that Bradford has a very low interception rate, and also has the ability to throw the ball into some tight windows. That precision is key for an offense that relies heavily on timing.

When the Eagles’ offense was at their best under Nick Foles in 2013, Foles was able to back accurate decisions and take care of the football. In 2014, Foles regressed and helped put the team in some holes with a lot of mistakes.

Kelly may now be gambling that Bradford can be that accurate, crisp passer that avoids turnovers to help power his offense.

Eagles, Kelly Still In Mix For Marcus Mariota – Bleeding Green Nation

Reports of the Eagles making a play for Marcus Mariota just won’t go away.

Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report wrote an article where passed along some reported inside information.

Freeman says that he continues to hear from well-connected people around the league that say Kelly and the Birds are still very much in the mix for Marcus Mariota. People around the league don’t believe that Kelly is satisfied with Sam Bradford as his quarterback, and they don’t believe him when he say he won’t make a play to move up for Mariota.

I think that a lot of people just don’t want to accept that Kelly’s plan really is to build around Bradford. The whole off-season has been filled with so much build up and speculation pointed towards Mariota, and the unexpected outcome of the team going with Sam Bradford, is underwhelming to say the least.

However, the signs point to the Eagles building with Bradford. They already invested a great deal to bring him here, parting ways with Nick Foles along with second and fourth-round picks. That’s a lot to give up for a guy that the team doesn’t plan to have here.

5 Phillies Topics To Ponder – Philly.com

Spring Training is more than halfway complete, and the regular season (for better or worse) is fast approaching.

Ryan Lawrence of Philly.com threw out several topics and questions for Phillies fans to consider as the new season nears.

Among them are concerns about who the Phillies will be playing at third base and in the outfield once April gets here.

Third base is Cody Asche’s job to lose at this point. Maikel Franco has offered little to no competition for Asche, and has failed to pick up even a single extra-base hit during the spring games so far. Franco is destined to start the year at Triple-A.

The outfield is where things get a little more interesting. Rule 5 pick Odubel Herrera has been very impressive, hitting over .350 all spring while showing versatility to play both the outfield and infield. He’ll not only be on the roster, but could start. Ben Revere has been a disaster at the plate so far, hitting just .138. He could very well lose significant time to Herrera.

Domonic Brown is the only other lock to start at this point. Some combination of Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur could make up the team’s situation in left field. I’d to like to think that Darin Ruf would factor into that mix as well, but the Phillies have been hellbent on keeping him off of the field for some reason.

Allen Iverson Wants To Be A Part Of The Sixers’ Front Office – Crossing Broad

During Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons, former 76er Allen Iverson joined Marc Zumoff and Malik Rose briefly for a conversation during the first quarter.

During the chat with the former MVP, Iverson revealed that he would like to be involved in the Sixers’ front office, and have a voice in whatever personnel decisions the franchise makes in the future. A lot of former NBA stars have gone on the have careers in the front offices of the organizations that they spent their playing days with, and A.I. envisions himself in similar role here in Philadelphia.

Somewhere, Sam Hinkie must be having himself a pretty hearty laugh.

Iverson is one of the last people that the Sixers should want to have anything to do with front office decisions. As great a player as he was, he doesn’t have any kind of scouting credentials, nor does he have a cold, calculating, analytics mind that would make him fit in to Hinkie’s entourage.
