The Philadelphia Eagles built the most complete roster in the NFL last offseason. As a result, Philadelphia won their second Lombardi trophy in franchise history by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. Now, the Eagles are tasked with defending their crown, which means trying to keep their roster together.

Unfortunately, the likelihood that Philadelphia's roster remains the exact same as it did in 2024 is slim to none. That said, every NFL team experiences roster turnover going into the new year, but the best teams are able to overcome it. The Eagles are a perfect example of that in the last few seasons, as they've replaced talent that was producing well for them.

In fact, a recent article from The Athletic suggests two former Eagles could be cap casualties for their current teams this offseason. Carolina Panthers running back Miles Sanders and San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave were the two names mentioned.

2 Former Eagles Likely to be Cut this Offseason

"General manager John Lynch already has said the 49ers will release Hargrave, who missed most of the 2024 season with a triceps tear, and allow him to become a free agent next month."
Matt Barrows- the Athletic

49ers general manager John Lynch made it clear the team has no interest in keeping Hargrave. The 32-year-old signed a four-year deal worth $84 million in 2023 and only ended up playing one full season with the team. This is because Hargrave suffered a pectoral tear, ending his season in Week 3 this year.

Hargrave had a great first season with the 49ers, notching 44 tackles, eight TFLs, seven sacks, 14 QB hits, and 38 QB hurries. Furthermore, he was off to a great start in 2024 with seven tackles, one TFL, one sack, one QB hit, and seven QB hurries.

Despite his play, San Francisco will likely move on because they fear a drop-off following the injury, partly due to his age.

On the other hand, Sanders cut possibility is more of a projection. However, given the lack of his playing time in 2024 and a lack of production with the Panthers, it's a logical cut. In 2024, Sanders saw just 34% of snaps when he was active. In that limited action, the 27-year-old gained 205 yards on 55 carries and scored two touchdowns.

The season prior, Sanders received more than double the amount of carries with 129 and gained 432 yards while scoring one touchdown. Sanders' performance has been less than stellar for a player who received a four-year contract worth $25.4 million during the 2023 offseason.

Therefore, it's not too much of a stretch to say that Sander will either be on a new team or out of the league next season.

Based on Hargave's and Sanders's last two seasons, Eagles fans are glad the team made upgrades at those two positions.
