The Philadelphia Eagles followed up their big moves with some nostalgia.

All year long, it seemed like there was an inevitable reunion between the Philadelphia Eagles and DeSean Jackson on the horizon. As Philadelphia tries to recoup from the roster dismantling that Chip Kelly orchestrated, Jackson would’ve been the perfect soothing move as the team needed a wideout to complement star quarterback Carson Wentz.

Instead, the Eagles made a bigger splash by signing Alshon Jeffery, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a nostalgic move. Welcome Nick Foles back home, Philly! The Philadelphia Eagles decided to bring back the once promising quarterback on two-year, $11 million dollar deal. ESPN reported that $7 million will be guaranteed. This was followed by a mutual agreement between Chase Daniel and the team for a release.

The spectacular Daniel-era came to an end, thanks to the rekindled love affair of Howie Roseman and Foles. The Eagles will eat up $6 million of dead money, making the release a bit surprising. But Daniel views himself as a starting NFL quarterback, despite not having any real chance to prove so over the length of his career. The signing of a backup quarterback was an interesting one, as it seemed other signings would take priority.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

In particular, defensive tackle Bennie Logan. Logan proved to be a consistent force on the defensive line, making him an enticing option for other teams. There was question around whether Roseman would throw big money at another defensive tackle just a year apart from Fletcher Cox‘s massive contract.

Alas, the Kansas City Chief took another chance at a former Philadelphia Eagles star, and scooped up Bennie Logan on a one-year deal. Logan will replace Dontari Poe, who will likely move on to another team. So, the Philadelphia Eagles lose Chase Daniel and Bennie Logan, while gaining Nick Foles. Weird, right?

The Eagles defense will have to be restructured through the draft, a big part of why the Cox contract was so debated. But even with Cox in his prime, Roseman can still salvage a weak defense over the next two seasons with smart drafting. It was a peculiar move not to bring back Logan, who was an impact player along with Brandon Graham this season.

Foles isn’t a spectacular upgrade, and the defensive line is weak. With the some potential free agent targets and with the contracts of Mychal Kendricks and Jason Kelce still on the books, Roseman’s job is far from over.
