Philadelphia Eagles Continue Their Busy 2016 NFL Off Season.

Philadelphia Eagles Executive Vice President of Football Operations Howie Roseman continues his strong push in the 2016 NFL Free Agency period, this time signing former 2012 second round pick and New York Giant, Rueben Randle.

Randle spent the last four seasons playing wide-reciever in New York and did not miss one game in his time for the Giants.

Via Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a one year deal with the wide receiver worth more than $3 million with a guarantee of $500,000.

Anaylsis

Randle, 24, was a second round draft pick out of Louisiana State University in 2012 by the New York Giants. Randle, by all intensive purposes, under-performed in his four years donning the blue and white, only once eclipsing the 900 yard mark once. Last season Randle managed to amass 797 receiving yards and snagged a career-high eight touchdowns.

What Does Randle Bring to the Eagles?

Just one week after signing former St. Louis Rams and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Chris Givens, the Eagles bring yet another underwhelming, yet high ceiling player into the wide receiver room this year. Randle is a physically imposing wideout, standing at 6’3 who also has bit of deep ball threat aspect to him as well, running a 4.43 forty yard dash at his combine.

With the addition of Randle, the Eagles now have a nice young core of receivers that include the likes of Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Givens, and Randle. The question remains for all four though, if they are able to stay consistent for a 16 game season and give viable contributions when on the field.

The Fit

Rueben Randle could become an interesting player to watch as we approach the opening of the 2016 NFL season. Randle has all the physical makings to become a legit number 2 receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles. But, he will have to fight for that spot as earlier today, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said that as of now the starting outside receivers are Matthews and Agholor.

Randle becomes a nice option at the slot, who will figure to offset Givens’s speed as they rotate at the number three spot. Just as he fits in, it could leave yet another disappointing yet potentially gifted receiver out of the Bird’s nest this season. Josh Huff could be on the mend as two new receivers have been signed presumably to do what he could not.

Produce.

Huff figures to be yet another Chip Kelly player who will see his time in midnight green come to an end this offseason.

The signing is yet another indicator of Howie Roseman’s logic this free agency period, aiming for young, under the radar players who have the possibility to reach their potential with the Philadelphia Eagles.

At only $500,000 guaranteed and on a one year deal, the contract gives the Eagles the chance to capitalize on a high ceiling player who, if under whelming again this season, will part ways with after one year without major financial implications.

Randle will have the opportunity to prove the team who let him go wrong twice this year as he will now be playing the division rival Giants this year donning the wings. Randle and the Philadelphia Eagles are looking for a surprising relationship.
