The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions, thanks largely to the play of All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts. The veteran signal caller led the offensive attack that left opposing defenses without any answers, and Philadelphia rode that train to its second Vince Lombardi Trophy.

While Hurts is undoubtedly the Week 1 starter, the pecking order behind him on the depth chart is less certain as Tanner McKee, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and 2025 sixth-round pick Kyle McCord have battled it out through the offseason program and will continue to do so in training camp.

It is too early to call any of those three the winner in this race, but one veteran appears to be behind the rest of the pack now that we've entered July.

Vet QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson's Days with Eagles Are Numbered

The Eagles will need to decide on one of these quarterbacks sooner rather than later, and of the bunch, Thompson-Robinson appears to be the best bet to be shown a pink slip before the regular season kicks off.

In a recent piece from Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal, it was noted that rookie quarterback Kyle McCord has been one of the pleasant surprises to come out of OTAs and minicamp, and, if he hasn't already done so, Frank expects McCord to supplant Thompson-Robinson as the team's No. 3 quarterback.

"The Eagles have drafted quarterbacks in late rounds or even signed as undrafted free agents in the past," Frank wrote. "But none, including current backup Tanner McKee, looked as poised in their first minicamp as McCord. His one TD pass to tight end Nick Muse (watch out for him, too) was thrown on a line, only where Muse could catch it, as he had a defender all over him. McCord should pass Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the third QB in training camp − if he hasn't already."

This past season, Thompson-Robinson appeared in seven games for the Cleveland Browns and completed 51% of his 118 pass attempts for 440 yards, zero touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Those aren't exactly numbers to write home about.

Being the fourth quarterback on the depth chart is never a position NFL players want to find themselves in. If McCord does jump Thompson-Robinson on the depth chart, a seemingly likely scenario, there is no real point in keeping the former UCLA Bruins signal caller around the City of Brotherly Love. If Frank is right with his analysis, Thompson-Robinson could be one of the first quarterbacks moved off the roster.
