The Philadelphia Eagles are emerging from their bye and face some high-profile matchups in the second half of the season. While the Green Bay Packers await Philadelphia on Monday night, the Eagles also have contests against five winning teams as they make their way to the playoffs for the chance to defend their Super Bowl title.
This paves a difficult path for Philadelphia moving forward, but some games are more advantageous than others. The Eagles will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 14 in a game that has lost some of its luster. While some believed Pete Carroll would make a difference in his first year, the Raiders have stumbled to a 2-6 record.
That mark was enough to make the Eagles believe they would be facing a defeated opponent when they visit next month. But the Raiders officially waived the white flag on Tuesday when they reportedly sent wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Raiders Wave the White Flag After Trading Jakobi Meyers to Jaguars
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars sent a 2026 fourth- and sixth-round pick to Las Vegas in exchange for Meyers. The 29-year-old was coming off his first career 1,000-yard season entering 2025 but has been a disappointment, catching just 33 passes for 352 yards and no touchdowns in seven games.
Part of Meyers’s struggles could have been tied to struggling quarterback Geno Smith. But Meyers was also the best receiver the Raiders had, leading the team in receptions and tied with tight end Brock Bowers for second in receiving yards.
With Meyers gone, Eagles fans may need a program to figure out who the Raiders are playing at receiver next month. Tre Tucker is the new No. 1 target for the Raiders with 32 catches for 427 yards and four touchdowns but beyond that, Vegas could be relying on Bowers to fill Meyers’s production while also sending out rookies Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr. in expanded roles.
This is a logical move for the Raiders, considering their season is circling the drain. But it also is welcome news for the Eagles. Philadelphia has been busy at the trade deadline, adding edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to enhance the pass rush. But they’ve also acquired two new corners, Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander to help on the back end.
For a team that always seems to be teetering on the brink of an implosion, having an opponent that’s planning a trip to Cancun in November is a welcome sight down the stretch. With every game counting in the NFC playoff race, seeing the Raiders wave the white flag is another that could help the Eagles get to the playoffs.
