The Philadelphia Eagles announced a surprise move earlier this week, opting to waive defensive lineman Gabe Hall from the active roster. In some ways, this isn't completely shocking, with Hall only managing to play five snaps in the season opener.

If Jalen Carter were in the starting lineup, it wouldn't be terribly surprising to see so few snaps. However, with Carter tossed after the first play of the game, the Eagles were in desperate need of surprise contributors. It was clear they were underwhelmed with Davis and weren't going to hesitate to turn the page.

Now, there is an open roster spot at the position that practice rookie Ty Robinson could fill. The Eagles have concerning depth at the position, with only Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo being clear contributors. Having Carter does buy a bit of ability to mix-and-match with the inside dominance, setting up lesser teammates, leaving a very real possibility that Robinson might make his NFL debut at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend.

Eagles DT Ty Robinson Could Make NFL Debut vs. Chiefs in Week 2

Robinson was drafted 111th overall and had a handful of solid moments throughout camp and the preseason. He was inactive in Week 1, though, with Philadelphia feeling more confident in its proven options. Obviously, they didn't have the advantage of preparing for a game without Carter, which is something the franchise and fans hope doesn't happen again this season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Robinson had an extra year of eligibility, which he utilized ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. The Eagles obviously valued the extra experience, serving as an advantage in adjusting to the pro level. The former Nebraska product didn't have the strongest preseason; however, he did show some pass-rushing upside with four pressures in three appearances, per Pro Football Focus.

Now, Philly has the needed roster spot for Robinson in Sunday's Super Bowl 59 rematch. It is a game that will have the Chiefs' full attention, not only based on what happened in February, but also due to dropping their Week 1 game to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Both the Chargers and Denver Broncos sit ahead of Kansas City in the AFC West, giving this game a special level of urgency. The Eagles will keep that in mind when making final roster decisions and preparing for this game, which could include giving Robinson a chance to shine.

Having the disruptive rookie to plug into the middle of the defensive line is a great potential gamble for an Eagles team that clearly could use better depth at the position.
