The Philadelphia Eagles are riding high after winning Super Bowl 59 over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles have an elite nucleus of players that features Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Carter, and Devonta Smith to name a few.
This team is built for sustained success and GM Howie Roseman has done a great continuing to find talent via the draft, free agency, and trades.
With a ton of players signed for the foreseeable future, there are a couple of guys the Eagles must think about making decisions for their future. One player on that list is DT Jordan Davis. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and is eligible for a fifth-year option. The deadline for Philadelphia to make that decision is set for May 1.
Eagles Have Jordan Davis Decision to Make by May 1
Davis was drafted to be the replacement for Fletcher Cox along the interior and give them a run-stuffing presence. The Georgia product has supplied 90 total tackles, six TFLs, six QB hits, and 3.5 sacks in 44 career games.
While these aren't eye-popping numbers, Davis does his job very well. At 336 pounds, he eats up multiple blockers, which frees up things for other players on the defensive line. Carter, his teammate at Georgia, is someone who benefits a ton from this.
Getting more one-on-one opportunities allows the Eagles defensive line to generate more pressure and create havoc in the backfield. Having a run-stuffer beast on the defensive line is something that the best teams in the league have.
In two of his last three seasons, Davis has logged at least 62 run-defense grades per PFF. The defensive line is one of the best units for the Eagles and was a driving force in them securing a Super Bowl.
Roseman would be wise to pick up Davis' fifth-year option to keep him around for at least the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Philadelphia has a chance to capture more titles and Davis could play a huge role in that, though the rising market for talented interior lineman could lead to his exit, just like Milton Williams walked this offseason.
