Surprise Eagles Ownership News Emerges Right After NFC Title Win

The Philadelphia Eagles are going back to the Super Bowl. After a dominant win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship game, the Eagles are set to face off against Andy Reid and the Chiefs once again.
Following the Eagles' victory on Sunday, a surprise report emerged about owner Jeffrey Lurie. The Ringer's Bill Simmons claims Lurie is in the running to buy the Boston Celtics.
Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie Attempting to Buy the Boston Celtics
This is not a huge shock for anyone familiar with Lurie's past. Before buying the Eagles in 1994, Lurie tried to buy the New England Patriots. As a big fan of all Boston sports teams, Lurie made a bid to buy the Pats in 1993 but failed in his attempt. A year later, he purchased the Eagles from Norman Braman for $195 million.
This will be the fourth Super Bowl for the Eagles in the Jeffrey Lurie era. Despite finding consistent success in Philadelphia, Lurie seemingly always had his eyes on owning a Boston team. The Celtics being up for sale is the perfect opportunity for the 73-year-old businessman.
The Celtics are currently owned by Wyc Grousbeck and his family. After winning the 2024 NBA championship, they decided to sell high on the franchise. Earlier this month, they received the first round of bids. It was reported there were at least four interested parties and the price tag was expected to exceed $6 billion.
This would make the Celtics sale the most expensive of an NBA team ever and quite possibly the most expensive of any sports team of all time. If Lurie ends up buying the Celtics, how much of his time, attention, and investment will go there over the Eagles could have big repercussions for the franchise going forward.
