The Philadelphia Eagles made their second trip to the Super Bowl in the last three years, where they met the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The last time the Eagles played the Chiefs in the big game was Super Bowl 57, where Kansas City was victorious.

Nonetheless, the Eagles knew the goal heading into Super Bowl 59. Much to the surprise of Philadelphia fans, the team was on a mission and executed the plan on both sides of the ball, en route to a 40-22 win over the Chiefs.

Chiefs' offense had no answers for the Eagles' defense, which terrorized Kansas City superstar QB Patrick Mahomes. Then, on the offensive side of the ball, star quarterback Jalen Hurts played well as the Chiefs made the decision to slow down Saquon Barkley.

However, four players in particular stood out in this game. Three players might not be with the Eagles in 2025, while one proved he should have a bigger role in 2025.

1. Josh Sweat, DE

Sweat and the rest of the Eagles’ defense made life hard for Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and their offense.

Philadelphia’s defense sacked Mahomes six times and held them to 275 total yards, which is incredible, given that they recorded 327.6 yards per game during the regular season. The veteran defensive end made his presence felt immediately on Sunday in what could be his last game in an Eagles uniform.

The 27-year-old EDGE rusher had six combined tackles, three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss.

Heading into the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, Sweat only had four combined tackles, a tackle for loss, and zero pressures through the first Eagles’ playoff games.

That said, Sweat’s fantastic performance in Super Bowl 59 was much-needed as the Eagles’ defense fed off his energy. With this being Sweat’s last game in an Eagles uniform before free agency, he’ll be one of the top pass rushers on the open market.

Heading into Sunday’s big game, Spotrac had Sweat’s calculated market value projected at a three-year, $56.4 million deal ($18.8M average annual salary).

The veteran defender will likely get more than that, which means he could be playing elsewhere in 2025. However, Eagles fans will not forget his performance in the Super Bowl.
