5 Eagles Immediately on Thin Ice to Begin 2025 Offseason

Even though the Eagles just won Super Bowl 59, these five Philadelphia players are still on thin ice to begin the 2025 NFL offseason.

Two years after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles are world champions once again. The Eagles put the rest of the NFL on notice Sunday night, dashing the Chiefs' dreams of a three-peat with a massive 40-22 win over the defending champs in Super Bowl 59.

As fun as a Super Bowl celebration can be, it won't be much longer before the Eagles must go back to work. General manager Howie Roseman has a long offseason ahead of him, especially when it comes to deciding who will and won't be a part of the team's attempt to win its second of back-to-back Lombardi Trophies next season.

While some players — like Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley — are guaranteed to return, that isn't the case for everyone. Here are five Eagles who are immediately on thin ice to kickstart the NFL offseason.

1. Avonte Maddox, CB

Avonte Maddox is someone who Eagles fans know well since being drafted 125th overall by the franchise in 2018. Having said that, the former Pittsburgh Panther's role has diminished throughout the years due to a combination of injuries and Philadelphia's ever-improving cornerback room.

The 2024 campaign further illustrated Maddox's fall from grace. The 28-year-old CB played to a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 62.9 in 2024 — his second-worst mark of the last four seasons — after allowing 15 receptions on 29 targets for 134 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles also phased Maddox out of their defensive plans the longer the season went on. He went from averaging 55.8 defensive snaps in his first four regular-season outings to playing 13 or fewer in each of the next 14 games. His only playing 13 total defensive snaps in four playoff outings proves that his time in Philadelphia will likely end.

It'll be a shock if the Eagles opt to re-sign Maddox when he hits free agency next month. They already released the regressing cornerback last offseason, meaning there's a decent chance of them being open to another divorce this year.
