On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles had a brief scare as MVP candidate and Offensive Player of the Year frontrunner Saquon Barkley went into the medical tent in the first half after he took a hit from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The Steelers defender hit Barkley in his right knee, causing the star running back to land on his shoulder. The Eagles had Barkley evaluated, as he didn’t play for the rest of the first half, leading to additional work for backup running back Kenny Gainwell.

The TV broadcast saw Barkley with his helmet on and standing on the sideline, which was a good sign for his possible return. The former New York Giants star ultimately got back on the field in the second half. He finished the game with a pedestrian 65 yards on 19 carries and two receptions for nine yards.

It wasn’t a typical performance from the star running back, who has been one of the best players in the league this season. However, Eagles fans were more worried about Barkley’s health after the game. Philadelphia has a huge matchup in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders.

According to Zach Berman of PHLY, Barkley told reporters after the game that his injury is “nothing crazy, a little minor.” And that he’s getting ready for next week.

Eagles fans are taking a huge sigh of relief as Philadelphia cannot afford Barkley to be seriously hurt at this point of the season. The 27-year-old running back plays an instrumental role in this offense and is one of the reasons why they are tied with the Detroit Lions for the best record in the NFC at 12-2.

It will be interesting to see if Barkley appears on the Week 16 injury report, and if so, what his status will be against the Commanders. However, for now, the Eagles are happy to come out with the win in a physical game against their in-state rivals.
