The Philadelphia Eagles are attempting to right the ship after a two-game losing streak that has been set up by an offense that goes unexplainably quiet in the second half. In each of the last two games, the Eagles had a chance to take control but were unable to take the pressure off the defense. Naturally, this led to losses that could've been avoided.
This has left obvious questions throughout the City of Brotherly Love, with NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark reporting the surprisingly sunny outlook of Saquon Barkley regarding the message offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo gave in their meeting.
""I love the conversation that we had. I love the mindset that we are going to.""Saquon Barkley
Barkley has zero interest in being openly critical of a coaching decision or attempting to push the OC in harm's way. However, it is not needed for the star playmaker to go out of his way to comment on the "mindset" that the Philly offense is adjusting to. This leaves reason to believe that changes are being implemented and will hopefully show up in a key Week 7 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Eagles Star RB Saquon Barkley Loves Direction of Eagles' Offense
Philly cannot afford to drop a third straight game with the Washington Commanders, creating a surprisingly tight NFC East race early in the year. The Eagles need to do everything in their power to address their offensive woes and begin a run that gives the franchise a chance to hold the NFC's top seed. Last year, the Eagles managed to win the Super Bowl despite missing out on the postseason bye week to the Detroit Lions, who were eliminated from playoff contention in round two.
Regardless, the point remains that Barkley's comments offer hope that this is still a possibility, and the two-game skid is simply an outlier. All the needed talent is in place for Patullo to get the job done. There needs to be more creativity to help give Saquon a chance to get going earlier in the game and spread the ball around.
Running the ball up the middle, or having wideouts work the same three routes, has been a consistent critique of a vanilla offense that has failed to get the job done in each of Philadelphia's past two games. If we are taking Barkley's comments at face value, there is an indication that this is changing with Patullo realizing the need for adjustments.
Minnesota is going to be the perfect test of this, with the defense of Brian Flores always presenting a challenge. A win and strong offensive performance would go a long way in appeasing mounting concerns for a fan base that headed into the year with understandably lofty expectations.
