The Philadelphia Eagles have made a living swinging for the fences during the Howie Roseman era.
There's no one better in the league when it comes to adding value to an already stacked roster, and with the start of the season looming large, the best general manager in all of football could strike gold again. At least, that's how ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell feels.
In a recent column, he put together quite an interesting mock trade that would send Trey Hendrickson to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for Jalyx Hunt, a 2026 third-round pick, and a 2027 conditional pick.
NFL Insider Proposes a Fascinating Eagles Trade for Trey Hendrikcson
Trey Hendrickson led the league in sacks last season, and he would've been a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate if it weren't for the fact that the Cincinnati Bengals gave up the second-most points per game (25.5) in the league and allowed 30-plus points six times last season.
Even so, he's the type of elite pass-rusher who would turn an already dominant defense into a historically great one. It would take some financial juggling, but he's more than worth the effort.
Vic Fangio's unit lost Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat in the offseason, and while they should still have more than enough firepower to get by, you can't spare efforts when you're looking to defend your crown.
"Could they afford Hendrickson? If they want to get creative, sure. He might need to compromise a bit to get a deal done, but the Eagles could give him a contract with what amounts to two years and $70 million in guarantees with some void years and unguaranteed money tacked on to create cap flexibility."Bill Barnwell, ESPN
Granted, losing a promising prospect like Hunt would be tough, but as good as he may turn out to be, Hendrickson is already a finished product, and it's not like the Eagles don't have plenty of youth on defense.
The Bengals are reportedly looking to get a young defensive player and a first-round pick for Hendrickson, yet it's hard to believe any team will be willing to give up such a valuable asset at this point in the offseason, especially since they didn't seem interested in doing so during the NFL Draft.
Hendrickson has made it loud and clear that he doesn't intend to suit up and play without a new deal, and the Bengals don't seem to have much leverage in this situation, so this might be the best offer they can get for their superstar pass-rusher.
