As free agency winds down and the Philadelphia Eagles begin to shift their focus to the draft, fans shouldn't be surprised if a few notable signings are still ahead. The Athletic's Zach Berman hinted at safety, receiver, and edge rusher being clear positions of need for the Eagles. With this in mind, it wouldn't be a surprise to see GM Howie Roseman make another move at the position ahead of the draft. Looking at the quickly dwindling fits remaining in free agency, none is a more obvious Roseman target than Leonard Floyd.

Already, the Eagles have signed one former Atlanta Falcons pass rusher, adding Arnold Ebiketie earlier in the offseason. Targeting former Atlanta pass rushers isn't a bad strategy, given the Falcons quietly had an elite pass rush throughout the 2025 season. The Falcons finished the season with the league's second-best pass rush behind the Denver Broncos, finishing with 57.0 sacks, a new franchise record.

Leonard Floyd was an important contributor in this room, providing 11 quarterback hits and a consistent veteran presence for a young position group. Impressive production is nothing new for Floyd, putting up double-digit sacks twice in his career and offering 8.5 sacks as recently as the 2024 season. Philly has the perfect opportunity to buy low on a veteran who could quickly become an elite contributor for the Eagles.

Eagles Would be Wise to Continue Stealing from Atlanta Signing Veteran Leonard Floyd

Floyd was asked to be a big part of the solution in Atlanta and wasn't playing with anywhere close to the interior defensive line talent the Eagles offer in Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. This could help Floyd turn back the clock and put up another great season for Philadelphia. Considering that the franchise was desperate enough to talk Brandon Graham out of retirement in the 2025 season and has lost key pieces in free agency, another addition should be the expectation.

Signing Floyd should fit well within Philadelphia's remaining budget and help alleviate pressure put on their upcoming draft class. Ideally, the Eagles put themselves in a position to select the best player on the board and aren't under pressure to target specific positions. Floyd helps you do just that, shoring up depth at a position that is clearly in question.

For the veteran pass rusher, it makes sense to join a contender while understanding both the playing time and talent around you that will be offered. As Floyd enters the later stages of his career, the veteran is setting himself up for a potential payday as well. Philadelphia attracts a lot of attention due to its history and playoff relevance. A great season from Floyd could set the veteran up for one last great free agency check, and more importantly, give the defender a real path to Super Bowl contention.
