The Philadelphia Eagles have officially opened up training camp, providing fans with a first look at this team in action. There's plenty of new faces that the Philly faithful are excited to see in action, like Saquon Barkley and Bryce Huff, but there's been some changes on the sidelines as well.

Nick Sirianni has entrusted his defense to veteran coordinator Vic Fangio, who takes over after Sean Desai struggled to lead this unit in his lone season at the helm.

Fangio comes with experience, but also a reputation for being old school, which proved to rub some players the wrong way in his previous stop with Miami. Despite that negative feedback, however, it seems Fangio is being himself early on in his Eagles tenure.

New lineback Devin White was asked about his first days with Fangio calling the shots. White made it clear Fangio is the type of coach who won't only just speak his mind, but make an example out of players who aren't doing their jobs correctly. White even said Jalen Carter was singled out on one day for exactly that.

Now, there's different approaches to coaching, and in a player-centric era, being so blunt like Fangio is can backfire.

Yet, considering this is a team with lofty expectations that underperformed across all areas in 2023, this is exactly the kind of tough love they need to get back on top.

It sounds like Fangio isn't blowing up on guys over trivial things, either. His critiques are aimed at execution, which clearly lacked in Philadelphia over the past year.

Making an example out of Carter shows no one is off of the table for a grilling, too. He's one of the most hyped young building blocks within the locker room, and coming off of a very promising rookie year after being drafted No. 9 overall, but that doesn't allow him to slack off on his job.

If this team performs up to its talent, it should have no issues getting back to making deep playoff runs -- and that's exactly what Fangio is trying to get out of this group by drilling them on doing their parts.
