The Philadelphia Eagles along with the rest of the 31 NFL teams are working on cutting their training camp rosters down from 90 to 53 players before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Eagles are deep at a few positions, namely wide receiver, and will have to make a few tough decisions over the next 12-24 hours. Philadelphia cut a couple of depth receivers on Monday, who could end up on the Eagles’ practice squad or land another opportunity in the league.

According to Andrew DiCecco of InsideTheBirds.com, the Eagles released wide receiver Austin Watkins on Monday. DiCecco also reports that Philadelphia released another receiver – Griffin Herbert from the 90-man roster.

The Eagles aren’t lacking in receiver depth after acquiring former first-round pick Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders last week.

Watkins signed a reserve/futures contract with the Eagles at the end of the 2023 season after he was on the Cleveland Browns practice squad.

The 26-year-old wide receiver only had four receptions (six targets) for 33 yards in the Eagles’ three preseason games. The 6-foot-3 wideout is the perfect candidate for the practice squad, if he doesn’t get interest from any other team in the league.

Watkins made a name for himself last summer in the preseason with the Browns and before that in the USFL with the Birmingham Stallions. The former UAB wide receiver had 16 receptions for 197 yards and a touchdown with the Stallions.

In addition to these two moves, we should expect the Eagles to make some more cuts at the receiver spot before Tuesday.
