Surprise Eagles Offseason Rumor Hints at Big-Name Reunion
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to make some roster tweaks before the 2024 season gets underway. They ended the 2023 campaign on such a sour note, dropping six of the last seven games. This comes just one year after reaching Super Bowl LVII.
The Eagles struggled on the defensive side, ranking 26th in total defense (356.1) and 31st in pass defense (252.7).
The backend of the secondary couldn't stop anyone and consistently got torched. On March 1st, the Eagles decided to part ways with safety Kevin Byard after one season together.
With Byard gone and Sydney Brown rehabbing a torn ACL, Reed Blakenship is the only safety the Eagles would have confidence trotting out there.
We are quickly approaching free agency and rumors have begun leaking. This one in particular would bring a smile to Eagles fans' faces.
NFL Rumors: Eagles Could Bring Back C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Per Tony Pauline, the Eagles may look to bring back safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson via free agency.
Last offseason, Gardner-Johnson signed a one-year, $6.5 million deal with the Detroit Lions after failing to reach an agreement to come back to the Eagles. In 2022, the New Orleans Saints had sent Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles.
He immediately made an impact on the secondary for Philadelphia. The Florida product has range as a ball hawk with a knack for helping out in the run game. During the 2022 season, Gardner-Johnson recorded 67 total tackles, and eight pass deflections, and was tied for first in interceptions (6).
The 26-year-old would be welcomed back with open arms and could significantly improve the Eagles' pass defense.
The Eagles are (+2000) favorites to win Super Bowl LIX, which are tied for the third-highest odds in the NFC. Head over to FanDuel Sportsbooks and capitalize on these odds after you claim your sign-up bonus.
