The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to steady the ship with the absence of Joel Embiid who is sidelined with a knee injury.

They have an open roster spot and they are looking at a former first-round pick to potentially fill in that void.

According to Shams Charania of the Athletic and the Stadium, the Philadelphia 76ers are bringing Kai Jones in for a workout.

Charania said, "The 76ers are showing an interest in Jones, who was waived by Charlotte in mid-October and has been working on himself on and off the court in the aftermath. The Sixers do have an open roster spot."

76ers Rumors: Philadelphia is Scheduled to Workout and Meet with Kai Jones

The Charlotte Hornets parted ways with Jones in October after he had some disturbing posts on social media and requested a trade from the team.

ESPN posted a statement at the time saying, "The Hornets announced last week the 6-foot-11 forward/center would not join the team for training camp following some bizarre behavior on social media, including a mostly indecipherable video on Instagram Live and other criticism of teammates on X."

With the playoffs quickly approaching, the 76ers are looking to bolster their frontcourt. Who knows if they will even sign Jones but he's an athletic big man that can score from all three levels.

The 23-year-old was selected with the No. 19 overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Hornets. His career just never got off the ground with Charlotte.

The 76ers hope Embiid can return some time during the playoffs. They certainly need him to have a shot at getting out of the Eastern Conference. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the 76ers are tied for the fourth-best odds at +1100 to win the East.
