The Philadelphia 76ers made massive offseason moves to set themselves up well for the future. Behind the big three of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, the Sixers are in a great position to finally make deep postseason runs for the next couple of years.

While the fans are undoubtedly thrilled about the 2024-25 Sixers on the court, there is an ongoing development that could potentially upset the Philly hopefuls.

The Sixers currently have a lease at the Wells Fargo Center until 2031. The team wants to move to a new Center City location and build a new arena. The city of Philadelphia published an independent study about this proposal, highlighting the project's potential negative impact on Chinatown.

Negotiations are currently ongoing with the city leadership, but the time is slowly running out if the Sixers want to be in their new arena for the 2031-32 season.

Having said that, Camden, New Jersey is trying to use this situation to their advantage. According to ROI-NJ's Tom Bergeron, the Sixers received a proposal from the state of New Jersey about the team relocating to Camden. The proposal details a transformative arena project that the team would own and operate.

Sixers News: Team Seriously Considering Relocating to Camden, NJ

This proposal from Tim Sullivan, the CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, was met positively by the 76ers, who said they are looking seriously at all options.

"We have worked tirelessly for the past five years to build an arena in Philadelphia, and negotiations remain ongoing with city leadership regarding our proposal at Market East. The reality is, we are running out of time to reach an agreement that will allow the 76ers to open our new home in time for the 2031-32 NBA season. As a result, we must take all potential options seriously, including this one."

The Sixers already have a massive corporate headquarters and practice facility in Camden since 2016. However, the franchise has understandably wanted to remain in Philadelphia. Yet, now that the $1.3 billion project in Center City is facing opposition, it may be forcing the ownership to re-evaluate.

When it comes to stadium deals between the cities and the teams, finances unfortunately play a huge role. If New Jersey's offer is financially better for Josh Harris and David Blitzer, the Sixers' days in Philadelphia may very well be numbered.
