Earlier in the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles took a chance on veteran wide receiver John Ross, who was intending to come back from his retirement. The former first-round pick was seen as a low-risk, high-reward type of player for a team in desperate need of more wide receiver depth. Unfortunately, however, Ross wasn't able to make the final cut. But it seems like his dream of an NFL return is still alive.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the former Bengal is currently working out with the New Orleans Saints.

NFL News: John Ross Working Out With the Saints

Ross initially made a name for himself in the draft process when broke the NFL record for 40-dash at the combine, running a 4.22. The speedster has been an intriguing target for teams looking for more athleticism and deep threats since then.

Yet, Ross has never been able to establish himself in the NFL. Injuries eventually sapped his speed over the years and he failed to stick in the league after his rookie deal in Cincinnati expired.

When the Eagles signed him back in May, it was a long shot for him to make the 53-man roster. He hadn't played in an NFL game since 2021 after all. Once the Eagles traded for Jahan Dotson, Ross had little to no chance of making the active roster.

Now, he will try to make the Saints' practice squad as they clearly intend to add more speed. They reportedly worked out another speedster in Phillip Dorsett, signaling what they are looking for before the season starts. Whether Ross succeeds in his attempt at an NFL comeback remains to be seen.
