Re-Grading the 76ers' Last 5 First-Round Picks

With the 2024 NBA Draft around the corner, it's a great time to take a look at the Philadelphia 76ers' last five first-round selections.

3. Landry Shamet, SG/PG (2018 R1, P26): C

The 76ers made two selections at the 2018 NBA Draft. They selected Mikal Bridges with their first pick (No. 10), but he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in a deal that saw Zhaire Smith's rights and a 2021 first-rounder sent back to Philly.

With the franchise's second first-round pick (No. 26), the 76ers drafted Landry Shamet out of Wichita State.

While some players spend their careers with the team that drafted them, that wasn't the case for the ex-Shocker. After averaging 8.3 PTS/1.4 REB/1.1 AST in the first 54 games of the 2018-19 campaign, the 76ers traded Shamet, two players, and four draft picks to the LA Clippers for three players, including Tobias Harris.

Since leaving the City of Brotherly Love, Shamet has bounced around the Association, playing for four different franchises in the last five seasons. He's still a serviceable bench player, but the fact that he's yet to average double-digit points in a season suggests that he'll never become more than that.

Better players were drafted after Shamet (Jalen Brunson, Robert Williams, etc.), but the 76ers could have done a lot worse. After all, the final three players taken in the 2018 draft's opening round have yet to reach 100 games in the league.

Given that his time with the 76ers was as short as it was, we'll give Shamet an average grade.
