Proposed James Bradberry Trade Shows How Low His Value Is

This proposed trade involving Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry just shows how low his value is right now.

One of the biggest uncertainties left after the Philadelphia Eagles' busy offseason is the future of James Bradberry. Following a disappointing 2023 campaign and the addition of several players in the secondary, Bradberry is squarely in the crosshairs, especially since he'd leave less than $5 million in dead cap space if cut after June 1.

Of course, Philadelphia is likely considering trades before outright letting Bradberry go for nothing. However, the latest deal proposal from Bleacher Report just shows how far his value has fallen.

In this hypothetical, Philly sends Bradberry AND a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2025 fifth-rounder. This move helps the Eagles save $1.2 million in cap space since Arizona is taking on his guaranteed salary instead, but it's still a raw deal for Philadelphia.

Surrendering a fourth-round pick just to get rid of a player and save a little cap space isn't worth it from an asset management standpoint. That's easily a selection the Eagles could use in a trade to acquire extra help if it moves on from Bradberry, or even take a chance on a young CB in next year's draft who could be a diamond in the rough.

The fact this was even proposed illustrates where Bradberry's general perception is right now. Though he registered 13 passes defended in 2023, he also gave up a whopping 11 touchdowns in coverage, smashing his previous career high of six. He surrendered 12.3 yards per reception against him as well, the highest mark he's given up since his rookie campaign in 2018.

With Bradberry being a legitimate liability that makes things even more difficult for this defense, it's no surprise the team is considering a split. If Howie Roseman does decide to part ways, though, don't expect a clear loss of a trade like the one proposed; eating an extra million and keeping a top Day 3 pick is way more valuable than moving Bradberry via trade.
