Projecting Where the Phillies' Top 4 Free Agents Will Sign This Offseason
By Tyler Maher
4. Rhys Hoskins: Cincinnati Reds
After missing the entire 2023 season with a torn ACL, Rhys Hoskins is in a tough spot heading into the offseason. Philadelphia seems open to bringing him back, but may not have anywhere to play him if Bryce Harper remains at first base.
Assuming the Phillies move on from Hoskins, where would he go? Plenty of teams could use a right-handed power bat, but he'll likely have to settle for a one-year "prove it" deal to re-establish his value.
The Cincinnati Reds seem like a team that could take a shot on him. They just declined Joey Votto's contract option for 2024, giving them an opening at first base/DH.
Only one player in their lineup topped 20 homers last year, so they could definitely use a slugger of Hoskins' caliber. The Reds will also likely try to be aggressive this offseason after narrowly missing the playoffs last year.
Hoskins fits the bill for them.
